Letter from Gertraud Von Hagen Suhr to her son, from Roskland, NY, July 23, 1894.

I had a letter from Gertie Reed. They are near Phoenix, Ariz. Seems like they want to buy something in that neighborhood, "Aunt" was very poor. It is her old illness and it must have returned in a worse form. It is very sad that she feels so bad.

!East Orange, Sept. 22, 1898

I got a letter from Aunt Elizabeth from Tampa, Ariz. She writes that the climate does not please her. It is much too hot. The land is very fruitful and the winter is very nice. Harveset follows harvest. Reed liked the temperature just right and the children are very healthy. they have not bought anything yet as the land is very expensive. Reed willl look around at the Gilas River. Aunt feels very lonesome and homesick. She wrote she would like to hear from you and see you again and so on. You would give her so much pleasure if you would write to her.

Aunt Elizabeth liked the area around Provo very well. It she could she would have liked to stay there. She asked how business is in Provo and Telluride.

!East Orange, Oct. 23 [year not listed]

I hope in the next letter you will write how you found dear Uncles and how the country looks. I have for a long time not heard from them since Aunt Elizabeth has gone. The Reeds have not bought anything. "Tante" does not like the climate but Reed thinks it is right.

!East Orange (Winter) 26th.

Had recently a letter from Aunt Elizabeth and she can't get used to the climate. It is very dry, no snow in the mountains, only 1/4 harvest if anything at all. The children had measles and scarlet fever. "Tante" was feeling bad from sleepless nights and all the trouble. The house they have is without shade and small, so will the summer be hard on them. It is such a rich land if it has any water. Reed still thinks it is the nicest land on earth.

!East Orange, Jan. 19.

From Aunt Elizabeth I had a letter. She sent pictures of their young ones, especially good looking youths. I'm very happy about them. What time does not do! Clayton looks like a grown up young gentleman. "Tante" feels much better and hopefully she will get used to the area.

!East Orange, May 29, 1899

Recently we got a letter from Gertie Reed in which she wrote that they would be on their way to California when we receive this letter. they have sold everything there. Gertis write nothing exactly where they would go or what they inted to do. I hope that the change will be to their advantage. Aunt's last letter was very unsatisfying. I'm very tensely awaiting the next letter.

!East Orange, June 20, 1899

Have you heard anything from the Reeds?
