My mother-in-law was Elizabeth Oros Willever. She told this story of her sister's death. They lived in a house with no electricity and the heat was probably a coal stove, I do believe they were dirt poor. Elizabeth ("Dear", as her children and spouse called her) told this story many times with no changes at all. It seems that the sister Mary was dying upstairs. She was alone. The mother, Emma (Emilie) was busy in the kitchen, I think, cooking. The siblings kept creeping up the stairs and peeking in. Emma kept berating them to stay away. Mary finally died, alone, as it was told to me ( I could be very wrong). The siblings were informed of their sister's death and they went to see her. At this point my M-I-Law would get very animated and tell how they were all spooked by the cold dead body of their sister and how they ran away scared of the body and how spooky it was. She told of how they were afraid to be in the house and they all piled in bed together because of their fear of their dead sister. There was no compassion for the dead sister in this tale, just how all the siblings dealt (poorly) with it. FYI - When Elizabeth's husband Allen died, once he went to the hospital she never visited him and never saw him alive again. He was there for at least a week, she never called him either. Not that she didn't ask about him, but her sons asked her many times to visit, and she refused.
