• Story: Mr Warhoover???

My Mom told me along time ago that her Grandmother, Lizzie, was married to a Mr. Warhoover. I thought I had found her living with him in Caseyville, Ill. in 1920. But, I also found her in 1920 living with Grandpa & the kids. The census were 20 something days apart and I don't think she could be in two different places that close in time. or could she?

  • Story: Hard Work On The Farm

Pearl told her daughter, Margie (my Mom) that in the fall Grandma Lizzie and all her girls would clean down the whole kitchen with Lysol. I didn't know Lysol was such an old cleaning product, but anyway...they would also scrub the wood floor in the kitchen. Next they would cook a big dinner (which we call "lunch" nowadays) and feed all the farm hands. She said they had a big table to sit everyone.

  • Story: Childbirth

Another story my Mom told me that was told to her by her Mom, Pearl is that one day in the field, Grandma Lizzie was working and nine months with child. Grandma Lizzie laid down and gave birth to one of her babies. She wrapped the baby in her long apron and walked back to the house to lay down. I do imagine whoever was with her ran to get the older girls to help give birth, but I am only imagining. I ofter wonder, didn't she have a back ache or something to know she could be in labor and stay around the house. Well, anyway, I hope everything was ok that day.
