Tri-County Obituaries 2001<br><br>Pugel, Mamie <br>Mamie (Kogovsek) Pugel - Pueblo Chieftain - August 31, 2001 - Sunrise, Jan. 1, 1909, sunset, at her home, Aug. 29, 2001. Mamie has been reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Pete, who preceded her there in 1993, after their marriage of 67 years. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Frank L. Kogovsek and his wife Delfinia, of Pueblo, her brother Raymond (Frankie Hilton) Kogovsek and his wife Helen, of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and her sisters-in-law, Elsie Dolan, Eva Pugel and Juanita Blatnick. The second generation to honor her are her godson/nephew, John J. Kogovsek; her goddaughter/niece, Mary Joy Kogovsek; and the following: Frank A. (Leona) Kogovsek of Northglenn, Raymond P. (Linda Gunsolus) Kogovsek, Daniel C. (Patty) Kogovsek, Larry P. Kogovsek, of Bend, Ore., Eulice Kogovsek, Ray (Judy) Hilton, and Barry (Pam) Kogovsek of Florida, Audrey (Ray) Perko, Mary Propes, Kathleen (Bob Fritzel) Kenick and Irene Blatnick. The members of her family's third generation of nieces and nephews are Lisa (Greg) Plutt, ToniRae (Curtis) Andres, Greg (Clarissa) Kogovsek, Jen Kogovsek, Jerry Kogovsek, Ryan Kogovsek, Stephanie Hilton, Ryan Hilton, Shelley Kogovsek, Kelly Kogovsek, Chris Kenick, Julianna Kenick, Gary Perko, Lori (Darren) Pantleo and Sharon (Mark) Hawkins. Many friends will miss Mamie, including very special friends Larry K. Higinbotham, Irene Dehn, and a host of friends from WSA Fraternal Life, The Pueblo Regent and service and volunteer groups. Mamie's career included insurance claims clerk at Corwin Hospital, clerk at Crews & Beggs, hostess at the Pueblo Continental Hotel, bookkeeper at the Pueblo Single Fund and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 20, lodge secretary for Slovan Lodge No. 3 and member of the board of directors of WSA Fraternal Life. Mamie will be most notably remembered for being an advocate for the rights and welfare of the elderly. She was an eloquent spokeswoman for this cause and served on various local, state and national boards to improve the livelihood of this segment of our society. In recognition of her many years of volunteering, the National Fraternal Congress of America awarded her its National Fraternalist of 1995 designation in Washington, D.C. Locally, she was recognized with the "Sunshine" award in 1985. Mamie and Pete were renowned travelers. They appreciated their sunrises and sunsets from their backyard to all 50 states and five continents. Mamie had been a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Bishop's Guild, Daughters of Isabella, SRDA, AARP, St. Mary Parish Council and WSA Fraternal Life. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary Parish where the celebration of the Mass and her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation, noon to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Mamie would have preferred that donations be made to a charity of choice. If so inclined, persons may donate to St. Mary Prayer Garden, the John Gornick Slovenian Museum, SRDA or the Sangre de Cristo Hospice in care of the funeral home office.
