  • Story: Trapper

Richard ran a fairly good trap line. He had been taught by his older brother Harry. He could handle any animal. He could grab a black snake that was not coiled. He could release an angry skunk from a steel trap. He had an amazing way with animals of all types.

  • Story: 1959 STRIKE

This strike was going to be a long one. In June the family of four kids, mom, dad piled into our 1953 DeSoto. Dad's machinst tool box was in the trunk. We went to Bensonville near Chicago and stayed at friends for a week. They had a cabin on Grass Lake in Fox Lake, IL. so, all summer long we lived on the lake in the cabin, while dad worked in Rockford. He was a 'First Class Machinst' and had his papers tools with him. He was very in demand in Rockford. One day he quit a shop at lunch and went across the street, got hired and worked the afternoon. When August came we returned to Geistown. The strike was soon over and we had not even stood in line for a block of cheese.
