Jane attended San Leandro schools and graduated from San Leandro High School in January '60. On April 9, 1961 she married the love of her life, Fred. Together they settled in San Leandro, where they raised their children, Joy and Fred, Jr., and built a beautiful life together. From the time she was a young girl attending Sunday school, Jane loved the Lord and had an unwavering faith. She was active at All Saints Church in Hayward, where she led the environment committee for many years. Jane was awarded the All Saints award for her dedication to the church community, and truly was one of the saints at All Saints. Jane had many friends from all facets of her life. She enjoyed getting together with her high school friends for their periodic lunch gatherings; she enjoyed her friends from church and attending the All Saints senior excursions, and she enjoyed staying in touch with other dear friends with whom she has stayed close for many years. Jane had a passion for her garden and felt close to God when she was able to care for her lovely flowers and plants. She also loved scrapbooking. Jane always had goals and accomplished them with fervor. Together with her loving husband, they built a successful electrical business that has thrived for over 30 years. Jane never lost sight of her goals and taught her family to do the same. After raising her family, Jane accomplished another of her goals of attending college and graduated from Chabot College in 1993 with honors, with an A.A. in Business. Most of all, Jane loved her family. She loved spending time with Fred and was a deeply devoted wife for 47 years. Other truly wonderful times were the vacations they planned with their children and grandchildren. The family's annual trip to Pismo Beach, a tradition started when their children were small, was a treasured vacation. They also enjoyed trips to Hawaii and to their mountain cabin. When the family was together, love and laughter abounded and Jane loved it. Jane "Grammy" was a very active and devoted grandmother and adored her precious grandchildren, Blake and Hilary. She attended all of their school functions, sporting events and loved and supported them with all of her heart as only a Grammy can. Jane died peacefully on April 26, 2008 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Jane leaves her beloved husband, Fred Harlan, Sr., her loving children Joy Harlan Buchanan of Clayton, California and Fred Harlan, Jr. of Moorpark, California, and her precious grandchildren, Blake and Hilary Buchanan. Jane is also survived by her cherished son-in-law, Don Buchanan and daughter-in-law, Andrea Harlan; adoring sisters Ann Grego, Greta Velazquez and Gaye Foss; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janice and Bob Housh, Jim and Margaret Harlan, Raul Velazquez, Jr. and Marc Foss, and mother-in-law, Ileen Harlan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eunice Grego. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's memory to All Saints Building Capital Campaign or a charity of one's choosing. The family would like to express their gratitude to family and friends for their prayers and thoughtfulness during Jane's illness.
