John Gavan (farmer and his wife , nee O'Connor had a daughter Bridget 1821 in Kilkean Cavan, County Kilkerrin (Cill Ciarain) County Galway. Bridgits shipping record states that she couldn't read nor write. This was a good thing as 3 Bridget Gavan's arrived in NSW prior to 1845, one from Kildare, able to read and write. The second from Tyrone County able to read but only to sign her name and our Bridget from galway. When Bridget and Dennis married Bridget signed her name with an X therefore identifying her self as the girl from Galway. Bridget embarked Plymouth, Devon on 14th May 1841 and arrived on the "John Renwick" on the 31 August 1841. the trip lasting 109 days. She came out with a group of girls brought out to be domestic servants she appear to be listed as a nurse maid. Just as well she was healthy as the only surgeon on board died quite early into the voyage leaving no Doctor on board.
