<span><p>The McConnelsville Herald</p><p>Thursday, September 26, 1940</p><p> </p><strong><p>Death of Mrs. Emma R. Nixon</p></strong><p>Mrs. Emma R Nixon, 76, widow of the late Charles E. Nixon and an esteemed resident of the county, died at her home north of Malta Monday morning at 11:10. She had been in failing health since she suffered a fractured hip in a fall at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joy Baxter of Oberlin seven weeks ago. For the past three weeks, however, she has been at her own home. </p><p>Born in Jefferson county, Mrs. Nixon was a daughter of Levi and Charity Scott Rouse and had been a resident of the county the greater part of her life. Thought she spent part of her girlhood in Chesterhill, she had resided for the past 50 years at the Nixon farm north of Malta. While her husband carried mail on Malta Route 1, Mrs. Nixon served as substitute carrier and was particularly well known to patrons of the route. She was a member of the United Brethren church and of Morgan grange.</p><p>Surviving are two sons, Fred and Oswald Nixon, of the home; one daughter , Mrs. Baxter, mentioned; three grandchildren, Charles Nixon and Mrs. Marjory Eppley of near Malta and Robert Baxter of Oberlin; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Gray of McConnelsville and Miss Lizzie Rouse of near Neelyville, and two brothers, Edward and Joseph Rouse of near Neelyville. One sister, Mrs. Mary Brown, is deceased. </p><p>Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Miller funeral home at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Mr. Moore. Burial was made in Malta cemetery. Pallbearers were F. B. Barrett, Clyde Parmiter, J. L. Maier, Everett Ethell and Charles an Ted Reeder.</p><p>OHS Roll #24130</p><font size="2"><p> </p></font></span>

ROUSE DIES SUDDENLY</p><p>Joseph Hugh Rouse, 78, respected Meigsville township citizen, died, suddenly, about 11 o'clock, Thursday morning, near his home. Mr. Rouse had returned from McConnelsville with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spencer and had gotten out of their car at their nearby home and started to walk to his house with his groceries. Two hours later, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer found him lying on the road where he had fallen. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Born in Penn township June 8, 1876, Mr. Rouse was a son of the late Levi and Charity Scott Rouse. He spent his entire life in the county, much of it in Meigsville township, and is the last of the Levi Rouse family of six children. In November, 1924, he was united in marriage with Miss Junia B. Spencer, who passed away some four years ago. Several nieces and nephews survive. Deceased sisters are Mrs. Emma Nixon, Mrs. Martha Gray, Mrs. Mary Brown, Miss Elizabeth Rouse and two sisters who died in infancy. The late Edward Rouse was a brother. Funeral services were conducted at Pleasant Grove church at 2 pm, Saturday, by Rev. H. B. Mason. Burial was in the church cemetery.</p></span>
