Catherine Hennessey
1833-1902
Born: New York
Died: Oswego, Oswego, New York, USA
Johnny Cullinan remembered that Catherine H. owned land near W. 7th where the land drops steeply. She had Michael O'Brien (father and son) who hauled manure from Kingsford Starch stables drop it on her land to build up the slope. Somehow these O'Briens were related to her. They are the father and grandfather of Agnes O'Brien of about 86 Erie St (now dead?) whose brother John T. O'Brien married Betty Lynch.
Pete Mahoney is also related to the Hennessey's. He was Commissioner of Water in Oswego and a big time gambler. His wife was beautiful and known to be honest. The big games in Chicago wouldn't start until she arrived to deal because they trusted her.
The Hennessey's were part of the Irish Settlement in the early days of Oswego. Johnny remembers going to the Irish Settlement Cemetary on Rathbun road with his grandmother Ellen Whalen Meagher to tend to Hennessy graves.
