This volunteer unit consisted almost entirely of Ohio volunteers. Anthony must have lied about his age, because he would have only been 15 at the time (unless he somehow joined it later). The unit would serve the duration of the war. On April 6th, 1865, it would play a significant role in the surrender of General Ewell’s forces at the battle of Deatonsville, which kept Ewell from reinforcing Lee at Appomattox. On the 8th, the 2nd Calvary would capture the Washington Artillery at Appomattox, allowing the Union to take the high ground, and setting up Lee’s surrender the following day. </span></p>
Anthony served in the 2nd West Virgina Cavalry, 2nd Regiment, Company F. He was about 15 years old when he joined. He was honorably discharged.
