<p>Alta E. Dittmar, 100 Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother </p><p>SCALES MOUND - Surrounded by her family, Alta E. Dittmar peacefully left this life for her place in Heaven at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Alden Alma Nelson Nursing Home in Rockford. Originally from Schapville, Alta lived nine years with her daughter, Jeanette, before moving to the nursing home seven years ago. Born June 21, 1903, in Schapville, the daughter of William and Minnie Bohnsack Wasmund . She worked for the telephone company for several years before her marriage to Raymond Dittmar on Dec. 23, 1926. After farming for 12 years, they moved to Scales Mound, where they raised their children and ran Dittmar's Sales and Service for 42 years before Raymond's death on Feb. 16, 1987. Alta 's life was centered around God and her family. There was always room for one more at "Grandma's." She was active in the Presbyterian church, where she sang in the choir, taught Bible study, Ladies Aide and quilting. She was loved enormously by her family. Survivors include son, Melvin (Pat) Dittmar of Scales Mound daughter, Jeanette (Burt) Wilhelmi of Rockford son-in-law, Harold Gallagher of Apple River grandchildren, Mark (Mary) Gallagher, Greg (Joanne) Gallagher, Marsha (Ken) Thompson, Glenda (Greg) Dolezalek, Robert (Michelle) Wilhelmi, Jacqui (Dr. R.J.) Wilhelmi-Carpenter, Dinah Dittmar and Dixie Dittmar great-grandchildren, Christopher and Shawn Gallagher, Jeremy and Erin Gallagher, Derek and Ashley Thompson, Nicole and Natalie Dolezalek, Nicholas and Connor Carpenter, Robert (Joanne) Wilhelmi, and Bryan and Laura Wilhelmi and sister, Leona Smart of Dubuque, Iowa. Also predeceased by daughter, Ilene son, Eldon sisters, Myrtle Stadel, Tina Smart and Meta Schlicting and brother, Harry Wasmund . </p><p>Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Scales Mound Presbyterian Church. Burial in Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Kitchen, Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, 316 South Ave., Scales Mound, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
