Marten, 72, of Emden, died at 12:20 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 1988, at the BroMenn Long Term Care Center, Bloomington.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">Mrs. Marten was a former foster grandparent at Lincoln Developmental Center.<span> </span>She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Emden, the church’s Ladies Aid Society and its Quilters; Club.<span> </span>She also was a member of the Eastside Pinochle Club.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">She was born Oct. 12, 1915 in Hartsburg, a daughter of Andrew and Rena (Bruns) Westen.<span> </span>She married Virgil Marten on Dec. 11, 1936 in New Holland.<span> </span>He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1975.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">Surviving are five son, Glenn, Emden; Denzil of Franklin, IN; Alan, Lincoln, Lester, New Holland, and Dale, Bellevue, NE; two daughters, Anita Gemberling, Emden and Myrna Boward, rural Bloomington; two brothers, C. Eldon, Hartsburg, and Loren, Emden; a sister, Irene Westen, Emden; 19 grandchildren; and three great-daughters.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">A sister preceded her in death.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Emden, with the Rev. Frank Pieper officiating.<span> </span>Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holland & Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln, and one hour before the service at the church Friday.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'"> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'roman 10cpi'">Memorials may be made to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospice, BroMenn Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.</span></p>
