When Eleanora was visiting her daughter, Jadwiga, in Poland, the German Nazis came to Jadwiga's home and seized the entire family. They took Eleanora, Jadwiga, Walter, and Jadwiga and Walter's three children (Teresa, Elizabeth, and Irene) to Germany. Jadwiga was also pregnant with Barbara at the time. Eleanora died in Germany and had never seen her husband, Stanislaw, and her son, Konstanty, after she was taken.

Eleanora had a lot of health problems. She had suffered from arthritis and had come down with a reddish skin rash on her face while in Germany. She went to a German hospital when the rash started, but they sent her home and she died the next day. She died on March 31, 1945...a few months after the war ended. She was buried in Wiederstein, Germany close to her granddaughter, Barbara (Jadwiga's daughter who died of measles before the age of one). My father, Stanley, was not born yet.
