J. <span style="font-weight: bold; border-bottom: 1px solid red; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #ffdf5e">Eickenloff</span>.</span></font></p><font face="book antiqua,palatino" size="3"> </font><p><font face="book antiqua,palatino" size="3"><span> The late Councillor Henry John</span><span> <span style="font-weight: bold; border-bottom: 1px solid red; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #ffdf5e">Eickenloff</span>, whose death took place on</span><span> August 9, was for more than a quarter</span><span> of a century a member of the Cleve</span><span>land Shire Council. During several</span><span> terms of the council he occupied the</span><span> position of chairman, and at the time</span><span> of his death was chairman of the</span><span> Finance and Works Committees. He</span><span> was born at Hanover (Germany) on</span><span> May 25, 1862, and in 1867 came to</span><span> Queensland on the sailing ship</span><span> Susanna Gootafrau. After living for</span><span> about ten years in the Belmont dis</span><span>trict deceased decided to pioneer in</span><span> the then uninhabited Birkdale district,</span><span> and the wheels of his waggon cut the</span><span> first track into the area where he re</span><span>sided for more than 50 years. He</span><span> married the daughter of the late</span><span> Christian Salm, of Belmont. During</span><span> his long residence in the Birkdale dis</span><span>trict the late Councillor Eickenloff</span></font><font face="book antiqua,palatino" size="3"><span> took a keen interest to public affairs.</span></font> </p><p><font face="book antiqua,palatino" size="3"><span> At various periods he was treasurer</span><span> and president of the Wellington</span><span> Point A., H., and I. Society, and at</span><span> the time of his death was one of the</span><span> society&#39;s trustees. He was also</span><span> treasurer of the State school com</span><span>mittee for a period. During the war</span><span> period deceased took a prominent part</span><span> in the district&#39;s patriotic committee,</span><span> on which he filled the position of</span><span> treasurer. His eldest son, William,</span><span> served with the 25th A.I.F. Battalion</span><span> in France. Deceased is survived by his</span><span> widow, two sons, William (Peak Cross</span><span>ing) and George (Goodna district),</span><span> and one daughter (Mrs. J. Buchanan Beaudesert).</span></font></p><p>&nbsp;</p>
