Morris, 93, of Columbia Street, Cohoes went home to our Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born in 1918 in Witherbee, N.Y. to John and Nellie Miller Slavin. Dorothy graduated from Mineville High School in 1937 and Albany Business College. She was a longtime resident of Hamilton Street before moving to Columbia Crest in 2006. She, prior to marriage, worked as a secretary at General Analine in Rensselaer. As her children grew up, Dorothy went to work as a typist for NYS Dept. of Labor, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the former Silliman Church of Cohoes and the United Church of Cohoes. At church, she was very involved with Son-Light, the Women's Association, Abraham & Sarah, Saturday Club and as a former deacon of the Church and the Cohoes Senior Citizens. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of almost 40 years, Edward G. Morris Sr. and her sister, Mary Grogan. Dorothy is survived by her two children, Mary Rose (Philip) Kopach of Waterford and Edward G. (Irene) Morris, Jr. of Forked River, N.J. and her five grandchildren, Christopher (Julianne) Kopach of Tampa, Fla., Edward (Cahren) Morris of N.J., Daniel (Velvet) Kopach of Waterford, Damien (Laurice) Morris of Long Island and Kathryn (Patrick) Biel of Colonie. She is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren, who have been the light and joy of her life, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Saturday 9:30 a.m. at the United Church of Cohoes, Mohawk Street, with Rev. Nick TeBordo, Pastor officiating. Interment in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends may call at the Dufresne Funeral Home, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes of Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the United Church of Cohoes.
