    <p>The village of Great Cubley is on an old Roman Road, with Rocester&nbsp;just across the other side of the River Dove which defines the county boundaries between Staffordshire to the west and Derbyshire to the east, except for a small area near Rocester to the east of the river, which belonged to the ancient county of Derbyshire.</p><p>Just to the south of Great Cubley is a moat next to a church, part of Foston Brook.&nbsp;</p><p>The village of Little Cubley is a little further south. </p><p>The village of Marston Montgomery is about 3km west of Great Cubley.</p><p>&nbsp;Several old halls are nearby, Stydd Hall, Bentley Hall with the strangely named &quot;hunger Bentley Village&quot; abandonned, just to the north of it;&nbsp; Snelston is on the Derbyshire side of the River Dove, with Snelston Hall. </p><p>Calwich Abbey is on the west bank of the Dove closer to Ellastone village, in Staffordshire.</p>
