<div><div><div><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size: 12pt">Regarding German practice of naming all of the male children <span> </span>in a family using the first given name of the original ancestor of the family <span> </span>Only the middle name identified the son, as shown below. <span> </span>Many Moravian villages were made up of both Czech and German families with many families being a blend of the two. <span> </span>Perhaps the German naming practice became the same naming practice of some of the blended families? <span> </span><span>Just a thought that might explain some of the confusing given name problems?</span></span></font></p><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size: 12pt"></span></font></p><div style="border-bottom: windowtext 1pt solid"><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size: 12pt">To demonstrate the naming practice of the German families (at least in some sections of </span></font>Germany) I have attached a page or two from one of the books about my earliest German ancestors who immigrated to Virginia. <span> </span>Please note <span>the <span> </span>use</span> of “Johann”, <span>ie</span>, “John”. <span> </span>A section of the book from which this information was copied describes the Hieronymus Family back to 1605 in Germany and the chart shows the vast majority of the males with the given name of “Johann”.</p></div><p style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 26.65pt"><font face="Times New Roman" size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Andrew <span>Ronemus</span> (Johann Andreas Hieronymus) arrived in </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">America</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"> sometime after 1753. Records show he was born in </span></font><span><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Lorsbach</span></font></span><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">, </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Germany</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"> about 1715. He and his wife, Catherine (Anna <span>Catherina</span> Hieronymus) had at least four children born in </span></font><span><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Lorsbach</span></font></span><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">, </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Germany</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"> with the last recorded baptism in 1753. Their last two children were born in </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">America</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">. They settled on a farm near Charles Town and Uvula (once known as Unionville) in Frederick County, (which in 1772 became Berkeley County) and in 1801 became Jefferson County, all in Virginia; however, in 1863 both Berkeley and Jefferson Counties became part of the new state of West Virginia.</span></font></p><p style="text-align: justify"><font face="Times New Roman" size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"></span></font></p><p style="text-align: justify"><font face="Times New Roman" size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"></span></font></p><p style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 26.65pt"><font face="Times New Roman" size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">The spelling of Andrew’s (Andreas’) surname is of notable interest! In </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Germany</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"> he was Johann Andreas Hieronymus; as an immigrant in </span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt">America</span></font><font size="1"><span style="font-size: 9pt"> he was Andrew <span>Ronemus</span>; he signed his will, Andrew <span>Ronemous</span>, ~<span>nd</span> both Andrew and Catherine’s surnames on their tombstones are <span>Ronimus</span>! John eager was previously married to Catherine Sly who died giving birth to their third child. John Eager was the only son of Robert John and Betty (also known as Betsey) Eager. Robert John eager fought in the Revolutionary War, serving in 1774 at The Battle of Point Pleasant under the command of Captain John Murray and from December 1776 until he was wounded in late 1777 or early 1778 , serving under the command of Captain Thomas Posey in the Corp of Colonel Daniel Morgan's Frontier rifle Company. Robert John Eager died of his wounds and his widow and son received compensation for his service. <br><br><br>LOUIS RHONEMUS (in America) m. Germany<br>d.9/19/1830 Shepherdstown, WV<br>Louis baptism record shows he was christened on<br>April 3, 1750, in Lorsbach. He was the second child, not the third, of Andrew and Catharina. He was born in Germany (not Virginia) as previously stated in the 1985 Book and emigrated with the family, sometime after 1753. He served in the Revolutionary War along with his brothers, Andrew and Conrad. One of John and Catherine's sons was John Rhonemus eager who was born in what is now Jefferson County, West Virginia.John R. moved to Ms with several of his siblings where he married Mary ann "Polly" Thomas. They relocated to Drew County, Arkansas and eventually to Texas after the Civil War.JohnRhonemus eager is buried in the Oakwood Civil War Cemetery in Waco, Texas, and, he is buried in the Federal or Union section of the cemetery. One of John rhonemuss sons, John Thomas Eager, married Amanda Jane Patton in Arkansas prior to their move to Texas. They are the parents of my grandfather , Thomas Patton Eager, who married Dora Matilda Underwood in Bell County, Texas in 1908</font>
