    <p><strong>Mr. Edward Davies Pardington Jr.</strong> of Ardmore died early Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, after a long illness. He was 68. Mr. Pardington was born July 13, 1935 in Winston-Salem, the only son of Doris <font color="#ff0000">[Gertrude] </font>Chipman Pardington and Edward Davies Pardington Sr. </p><p>Mr. Pardington graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1957 and attended graduate school there also. He held many occupations including teacher, mailman and property manager. He also taught Latin and drama at the Ojai Valley School in California. He was heavily involved in the arts, including drama, music, creative writing and the visual arts, such as painting and woodcarving. He also collected rare books, which filled his home. Among his books was a five-volume set, History of England, published in 1861, and The Crisis of the Deeper Life, written by his late grandfather, the Rev. George Palmer Pardington. </p><p>Mr. Pardington was a prolific writer of unpublished works, including an autobiography. His wit and passion for words - especially puns - entertained all who knew him. His affinity for words produced his own business, West Salem Books, a literary agency. </p><p>Mr. Pardington was predeceased by both parents; his sister, Angela <font color="#ff0000">[Davies]</font>&nbsp;P<font color="#ff0000">[ardington]</font>. Lloyd; and his eldest son, Malcolm Wayne Pardington. He is survived by three children, Edward Stephen Pardington of Carrboro, Joseph Chipman Pardington of Chapel Hill and Lisa Fay Beatty of Oakland, Calif. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Hazel Elizabeth Pardington and Ruby Amelia Pardington; and two sisters, Sarah <font color="#ff0000">[Sims] </font>P. Hedrick of Lexington and Susan <font color="#ff0000">[French] </font>P. Freeman of Hamilton, Ohio. </p><p>A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry St., Winston-Salem.
