    <p>Our deepest sympathy goes out to Coach Mickey Sworden, his brother former Coach Frank Sworden, and former Hiller Football player Nick Sworden on the passing of their mother and grandmother.&nbsp; I have posted all the information below about the viewing and about the funeral of Mrs. Joan Sworden.&nbsp; You are in our thoughts and in our prayers.<br><br></p> Joan Sworden <div style="font-size: small;">Beloved mother <p style="font-size: small;">and grandmother</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Joan Sworden, 85, lifelong resident of Washington, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 19, 2010, in Washington Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">She was born March 31, 1924, a daughter of Antonio and Cathrine LaBella Piccioni.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Mrs. Sworden was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">She worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Plant.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">On April 26, 1947, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, she married Mike Sworden, who passed away May 29, 2000.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Mrs. Sworden was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Alpine Star Lodge and Victoria Lodge.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">She was a avid sports fan, following her sons and grandchildren throughout their participation in local sports, particularly football, baseball and softball. She was a very familiar presence for 30 years at McGuffey and Trinity high school football games. She was a great fan of all Pittsburgh professional sports teams.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Mrs. Sworden fulfilled a lifelong aspiration by visiting Italy in summer 2007, reconnecting with relatives and touring Viganello, Italy, her father's birthplace. During summer 2009, she was fortunate to have her Italian relatives as guests in her home.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Her deepest passion and pleasure was cooking and baking cookies and desserts for her family and friends.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Mrs. Sworden became a tissue donor to help others in need.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Surviving are three sons, Frank (Karen) Sworden of Washington, Michael (Patti) Sworden of Washington and Dennis (Debbie) Sworden of Malvern; a daughter, Sandra (Vince) Kaminski of Washington; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Shannon, Nicholas and Shawn Sworden, Michael and Melissa Kaminski, Vicki Sworden Hughes and Trissa Sworden Hoover; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Evelyn Hoover; and several nieces and nephews.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Deceased are brothers, Alfonso and Charles Piccioni; and a sister, Anna Marie (Dolly) Berteotti.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">She was the last of her immediate family.</p> <p style="font-size: small;">Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.</p> </div>
