<span>Alfred Frimodig <em>Birth: unknown, Finland. Death: Jan. 14, 1892 Lead Lawrence County South Dakota, USA.</em><em> <p>S.R. Smith Mortuary records of Lead state that Alfred "Freemoodie" died January 14, 1892; killed in the Highland Mine; age 33 years 2 months 1 day; born in Finland; buried in the South Lead Cemetery at 3 p.. on January 15, 1892; 5' 4 1/2 " tall, fair complexion, blue eyes. </p><p>Black Hills Daily Times newspaper, January 16, 1892 - "Alfred Frimodig was instantly killed while at work in stope No. 5, 200 level of the Highland mine, Thursday morning. A little before quitting time, himself and partner, who were working at contract work, had put in a blast and fired it. It did not break, so Alfred got in the stope and commenced barring down the rocks, when a large rock weighing perhaps 200 pounds, struck him on the base of the brain and instantly killed him. He was taken out by his partner and comrade and taken to the hospital, where it was found that the base of the brain had been unjointed, left leg badly shattered at knee, left arm broken at elbow, and chest caved in. Deceased was thirty-three years of age, has been a miner for over fifteen years. He leaves a wife and two children in Lead, father, three brothers and three sisters residing in Red Jacket, Michigan, to mourn his loss. Deceased came to the Hills three years ago, was a member in good standing of the Lead City Miners' Union, under whose auspices the funeral will take at 3 o'clock today. A coroner's inquest was held yesterday over the remains of Alfred Frimidog, by Justice Smead, and the jury was as follows: Archie Ferguson, Curley O'Leary, James Corlatt. After hearing the evidence the company was exonerated from all blame." </p><p>Black Hills Daily Times, January 16, 1892 - "Mrs. Alfred Frimodig Thursday evening received a telegram from her deceased husband's brother at Red Jacket, Mich., requesting his remains be sent back there. Mrs. F. at first consented, and afterwards changed her mind, and the remains were buried in Lead." </p><p>Black Hills Daily Times, January 16, 1892 - "The funeral of Alfred Frimodig took place from the Unon hall at 3 p.m. yesterday, and was largely attended by his countrymen, friends and members of the Union. Rev. Chas.
