  • Story: Obituary Richard Pioch

    <p>Richard Calvin Pioch, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Born October 1, 1924 in St. Joseph, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. After the war he served in the 139th Airlift Wing. On January 28, 1948, he married Celestine Spaeth Pioch, who survives of the home. Mr. Pioch was an optician for St. Joseph Optical for fifty years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he had been an elder, chairman of the building committee, president of the congregation, taught bible class for adults and young adults, took people to church, and sung in the choir. He was a member of the American Board of Opticians; Assistant Scout Master, Troop 48 and past president of the Southside Lions Club. He loved gardening, golfing, and had been the president of St. Joseph Homing Pigeon Club. He also enjoyed woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Franklin and Martha (Simpson) Pioch; and his sister, Charlotte Pioch Jennings. (Additional Survivors:) his children, Jean Swymeler, St. Joseph, Jim Pioch (Linda) Des Moines, Iowa, Cathy Weidmaier, Kansas City, Missouri, Paul Pioch (Karen), Algonquin, Illinois; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. (Services:) 10:00 A.M. Saturday, St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Friday. Mr. Pioch will be removed from Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service. The Family suggests memorial gifts to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund or Kendallwood Hospice</p>
