  • Story: Last Rites For Mrs. Chas. Carney

    <p>Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 1, at 3:30 p.m. at Martin Brothers funeral home in Waukon for Mrs. Charles Carney, 86, with the Rev. Walter Bodamer officiating.&nbsp; Burial was in Smithfield cemetery.</p><p>Mrs. Carney died Thursday, July 30, in Waterloo, where she had resided for the past five years.</p><p>Anna Beutler, daughter of John and Anna Eggan Beutler, was born in Zurich, Switzerland November 10, 1877, and came to the United States in 1891 [sic].&nbsp; She lived in Fairview township and was educated in the local schools.</p><p>June 9, 1896, she married Charles Carney in Allamakee county and they were parents of four children.</p><p>Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. George (Ruth) Seitz, Waukon, and Mrs. William (Mabel) Powell of Luana, and a son, Theodore, of Harpers Ferry.&nbsp; Ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Pettit of McGregor, also survive.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Frank.</p><p>Mrs. Carney was a member of St. John&#39;s Lutheran Church in Waukon.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Waukon Democrat</p><p>6 Aug 1964, page 1B </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>*Anna and the rest of the Beutler family actually moved to the United States in 1883, and moved to Iowa in 1890. </p>
