In 1878 they moved with their family to Republican County, Kansas, and resided there until 1883 when they moved to Holt County, Missouri, and located near where the town of Portescue now stands. On December 31, 1890, they moved to their own farm at the foot of Big Lake.
Here her companion of nearly 40 years preceded her in death in September, 1912. She continued to live on the farm until 1917, when she moved to Mound City, residing there until her death.
She leaves 4 sons, Eldred E., Sylvester, and Jud of Mound City and Thomas of Portescue, a daughter, Hester Ann Binder, of Bigelow, 3 brothers, Robert, John, and Fletcher of Villisca, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Heyd of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
