<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">Joan Barrett Aboud, retired teacher, business woman, club organizer and philantropist died Tuesday night, July 29, 1980. in Tuscon Medical Center at age 75. In spite of will health, she had remained active since her retirement from Mansfeld Junior High until very recently.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">After graduating from Baylor University, she came to Tuscon where she taught in Safford Elementary School, but became the music teacher when Mansfeld opend in 1930. She earned her Master's Degree from the University of Arizona while teaching and continued to teach music until the core plan was organized in Mansfeld. Then she began teaching social studies because of her special interest in history and government.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">Alothough always deeply interested in teaching, Mrs. Aboud had enough energy to carry on a business career at the same time. In addition to co-owning three drugstores, entailing the supervisory and personnel work, she managed 38 rental units and other property while continuing to teach history and government.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">Her interest in business was spurred on by taking membership in International Toastmistress Clubs, Inc. While chairman of the Southwest Region of ITC, she organized several new chapters and found time to attend national Toastmistress annual conventions.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">In 1959 and 1960 she traveled in Europe and the Near East studying governmental affairs, and has served on public relations and education for the Near East. In 1961 she attended a conference with government committees of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Suria.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">In 1965, Mrs. Aboud was president and Woman of the Year for Saguaro Chapter of American Business Women's Association and never ceased to be active in helping with the scholarship program. She was also a very active member in the University of Arizona chapter of Business and Professional Women.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">In addition to the above mentioned groups, Mrs. Aboud was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, the Legal Women's Auxiliary, National Retired Teachers Association, and other organizations, the most recent of which was Arizona State Poetry Society because of her lifetime interest in literature.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">In the 1960's, she became listed in WHO'S WHO OF AMERICAN WOMEN.</span></strong></p> <p> </p>
