Maria, her brother and sister were all known to be extremely kind people. Maria was able to read from the Bible at 5 years of age. Maria married Edmund Christian on 12th February, 1877 at Nuriootpa by Pastor Reusch. Maria's sponsors were Wilhelm and Auguste Hoff and Wilhelm and Elizabeth Maywald. The couple had various moves throughout the Valley. Edmund lived at Kangaroo Island then Krandorf when they shifted there from the Island, Ebeneser, Tanunda, New Mecklenberg, Greenock and finally Kapunda. Prior to the mid 1890's, Edmund and Maria lived at Nuriootpa, Krandorf, Ebeneser and Tanunda. In 1885, he purchased portion of section 199, being 10 acres, in the hundred of Belvedere. Later in August 1888, sections 655 and 723 in the hundred of Moorooroo were bought. A small farm of 68 acres, being section 680 in the hundred of Nuriootpa, at Neu Mecklenberg (Gomersal) was home for the family for a number of years. Edmund grew a little grain, besides running a few livestock. They were living on this farm when Maria died of pneumonia, leaving Edmund with 8 children, whose ages ranged from 3 to 18. Maria who was nearly 40 years of age, died on 7th December, 1896."</p>
