    <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">Alice Blacket was born in 1772, probably in the village of Tunstill, 2 miles from Catterick, Yorkshire.<span>&nbsp; </span>She was one of 12 children of John Blacket and his wife Rebecca.<span>&nbsp; </span>Her father John was a day labourer employed for many years in the service of Sir John Lawson.<span>&nbsp; The Blackets have a long<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman'"> history in </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman'">Durham</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman'"> and Northumberland, dating back to at least 1300.&nbsp; </span></span>One of her brothers, Joseph, has some claim to fame as a rather mediocre poet (See Joseph Blacket).</font></font></p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">On 4 December 1793 Alice married John Dixon in Catterick. </font></p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">We know they had at least 3 children:</font></p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>Joseph, born in 1789</font></font></p><p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>Rebecca, born about 1796</font></font></p><p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>John, born in 1807. </font></font></p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">John was a gamekeeper to Sir Ralph Milbanke at Seaham in 1807 when their son John (our ancestor) was born.<span>&nbsp; </span>They were still there when Alice&rsquo;s brother, Joseph Blacket returned from London in poor health, with his young daughter, and where he died in 1810.<span>&nbsp; </span></font></font></p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">By 1841 John and Alice were living in Cleadon Village, John listing his occupation as Agricultural Labourer.<span>&nbsp; </span>In 1851 they were living at Cleadon Quarries.<span>&nbsp; </span>John, now 81 years of age still lists his occupation as Agricultural Labourer.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></font></font></p><font size="3"></font><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">Alice died in Cleadon in 1885, the same year as her husband John.</font></font></p><span><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">&nbsp;</font></span>
