• Story: Divorce Court Records

Henrietta filed for divorce from Julius on 10/29/1872, because Julius had deserted her on 8/27/1871. An affidavit stated that he was an "unsteady and unsettled fellow" whose whereabouts was unknown. So, on that date Service of the Summons was ordered by the court to appear in the Marquette Express for six successive weeks. Since he did not appear, the marriage contract was declared dissolved on 1/04/1873, and she remarried in two weeks, pregnant with George Wegenke's child. One month later, Julius married Auguste Henke.
