Dougherty, 75, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital in</p> <p>Fargo, after a long and difficult battle with health problems.</p> <p>Margaret Maxine LaRoque was born April 4, 1932, of Metis People of the North, near St. Vincent, Minn., and graduated high school from Mount St. Benedict in Crookston, Minn. She married Daniel J. Dougherty on Nov. 23, 1953 in Hallock, Minn., and they remained married for 53 years. They lived and raised a family in Grand Forks and Devil?s Lake, N.D., Wadena, Minn., Mobridge, S.D., Bloomington and Detroit Lakes, Minn.</p> <p>Surviving Margaret are her husband, Daniel; her children, Maura Dougherty of Campton, N.H., Daniel Dougherty of Fargo, Shawn Dougherty of San Leandro, Calif., and Michelle Dougherty-O'Meara of Everett, Wash.; one grandchild; sisters, Linda Borowicz of Alma, Mich., Sharon Weidman of Augusta, Ga., Muriel Melin of Hallock, Minn., and Merlin LaRoque of Trussville, Ala.</p> <p>Preceding her in death were family members Floyd LaRoque and Florence LaRoque Baker.</p> <p>Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. She was a brave woman who died after a long and difficult battle with health problems. She was born April 4, 1932 of Metis People of the North, near St. Vincent, MN and graduated High School from Mount St. Benedict, in Crookston, MN.</p> <p>Metis people of the North refers to a large population of mixed-bloods-- descendants of European men and Native women (Indians). They had congregated around the Canadian Great Lakes. The term Metis (French for "mixed") came to refer to those who were french-speaking and Catholic.</p> <p>She was married to Daniel Dougherty on November 23, 1953 in Hallock, MN and remained married for 53 years. The lived and raised a family in Grand Forks, ND, Devil's Lake, ND, Wadena, MN, Mobridge, SD, Bloomington, MN, and Detroit Lakes, MN.</p> <p>She is survived by her husband, Daniel, and her children, Maura Dougherty of Campton, New Hampshire, Daniel Dougherty of Fargo, ND, Shawn Dougherty of San Leandro, CA, and Michelle Dougherty-O'Meara of Everett, WA, her grandchild, Frances O'Meara. She is survived also by her sisters Linda Borowicz of Alma, MI, Sharon Weidman of Augusta, GA, Muriel LaRoque of Trussville, AL. She is now joined with her deceased family members, Floyd LaRoque and Florence LaRoque Baker.</p>
