<p><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium">At the age of 17 years Catherine Doolan travelled to Australia without her family, under the protection of a Mrs Benson, arriving on 24 June 1841.</span></font></p><p><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium"> She was brought out on the "Earl Grey" by Nicholas James & Co. She was a native of </span></font><span style="border-collapse: collapse; white-space: pre"><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium">Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland and was a farm servant. </span></font></span></p><p><span style="border-collapse: collapse; white-space: pre"><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium">No baptismal certificate was provided but her character and person were certified by H Heshopp (sp), a vicar, and John O'Dea. </span></font></span></p><p><span style="border-collapse: collapse; white-space: pre"><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium">The "state of her bodily health, strength and probable usefulness" was judged as being very good. </span></font></span></p><p><span style="border-collapse: collapse; white-space: pre"><font face="'times new roman', times"><span style="font-size: medium">She was a Roman Catholic and could both read and write. She was the daughter of Dennis and Ellen.</span></font></span></p>
