  • Story: Delores Ender Koch

    <div><p>Delores M. Koch, 81, of 7273 Schueller Heights Road, formerly of Rosedale Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at home, surrounded by her family.</p><p>Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 10th and Locust Streets, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth and the Rev. Nancy Bickel officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road. Friends also may call from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.</p><p>She was born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Dubuque, daughter of August and Ella (Knockle) Ender. She married Merle P. Koch on May 5, 1951, at Faith Evangelical Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on June 22, 2006.</p><p>Delores graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and later worked as a coffee hostess at Bishop&#39;s Buffet for many years.</p><p>Delores loved her family and friends. She enjoyed sharing a cup of tea or glass of wine with whomever visited. Flowers and fountains were peaceful and beautiful to her. Delores felt closer to her husband, Merle, when in his flower gardens at their home on Rosedale.</p><p>Delores recently moved into the new home of her granddaughter, Heather, husband, Dan and children, Hannah and Garret, where she called her new apartment her &quot;heaven on Earth.&quot; Listening to her great-grandchildren play, sing and practice piano gave her great joy. Hours were spent watching the birds, deer and other wildlife out her windows.</p><p>Delores was a strong woman. She was a 48-year survivor of breast cancer. Many young women looked up to her strength and survivorship. She was a featured guest of the Images and Information breast cancer survivor program in 2005.</p><p>She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.</p><p>Surviving are a son, Gary E. Koch, of Dubuque; two daughters, Deborah (Greg) Hutchinson, of Dubuque, and Kimberly (Mark) Staup, of Wylie, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Jean Koch, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Ed, Matt and Amy Koch and Heather (Dan) Schuster, all of Dubuque, Brianna (Eric) Sanner, of Baraboo, Wis., and Ryan and Adam Staup, of Wylie; along with seven great-grandchildren.</p><p>She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lyle Carl Ender.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Cancer Society, the Heart Association, and Hospice of Dubuque.</p><p>Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hoffmannschneiderfuneral</p><p>homes.com.</p><p>The family wishes to thank her granddaughter, Heather, for her loving care; as well as the cardiac unit at Mercy Medical Center, especially Ann; and the staff at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Megan and Amy.</p></div><p>&nbsp;</p>
