  • Story: Michael Reitz And Elizabeth Snoke/Schnock

    Served in Revolutionary War.<br><br>Michael Reitz and Elizabeth Snoke had 13 children.<br><br>Bell&#39;s History of Northumberland County lists Michael Reitz as a member of the three man building committee for the Himmel Lutheran/Reformed Church.&nbsp; His name also appears on the communion list of June 30, 1776.&nbsp; He is said to be a native of Berks County, moving to Washington Twp. in 1790.&nbsp; All his children lived to be over 80 years old.<br><br>Floyd&#39;s Northumberland County Genealogy states:<br><br><br>&quot;Michael Reitz, the other son of George Reitz, was born in January, 1757, and owned a place of 125 acres in Washington township (where Luther Rebuck now lives) where he died Dec. 17, 1825.&nbsp; His wife, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Schnock, was a native of Berks county, PA, born about 1766, and made the trip to Northumberland county on horseback.&nbsp; She died Dec. 18, 1853, and she and her husband are buried at Himmel&#39;s Church, of which they were pioneer members, belonging to the Lutheran congregation.&nbsp; All the family were active in the official work of this church, in which Michael Reitz held all the offices, and in 1818, when the old stone church was erected, he acted as building master.&nbsp; He was an all-around useful and prominent member of his community, and respected accordingly.&nbsp; His children were: Michael, lived in Jackson (now Washington) township; George settled at Red Bank, Pa; John settled at Red Bank, Pa; Jonas lived in Washington township (where William Rebuck now lives); William settled at Red Bank, PA; Peter lived at Richfield, PA; Daniel is mentioned later; Bevvy married Johan Georg Reed; Christina married Michael Hetrich.&quot;<br><br>&quot;Family History of the Descendants of Johan Friedrich Reitz&quot; by Higginson states:<br><br>&quot;Michael Reitz, the other son of Pioneer Johan George Reitz, at the Swabian Creek, Northumberland Co., Pa., born Jan 1757; d. Dec. 17, 1825; m. Elizabeth Rebuck, b. 1766, d. Dec. 18, 1853.&nbsp; Both are buried at Himmels Church.&nbsp; They were devout Lutherans; he was the building master of the second or stone Himmels Church in 1818.&nbsp; Were farmers near Rebuck, Pa., and had ten children.&quot;<br><br>See notes regarding Michael&#39;s father, Johan, for a brief mention from &quot;Jefferson County Pennsylvania, Her Pioneers and People&quot; V. 2, by McKnight.
