Ella Rolland Brandon, daughter of Jean and Peter Rolland, was born Sept. 22, 1870 in LaPrairie township, Marshall County, Illinois and passed away Sept. 8, 1972 in the Harlan County Hospital, alma, Neb at the age of 101 years, 11 months and 8 days.<br><br>In 1877 the Rolland family came to Kansas in a covered wagon and homesteaded in Phillips County, Kansas. Ella resided in Phillips County the rest of her life. She was united in marriage to John C. Brandon on March 19, 1891 in the Methodist Church at Alma, Neb. To this union were born five children - Ruth, Jeanie, Calvin, Maggie and Will.<br><br>She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on Mar. 15, 1940, 2 daughters, Jeanie and ruth, and one son, Calvin. she leaves to mourn her death one daughter, Maggie McFarlane and her busband, William; one son, Will, and his wife, Millie; one daugher-in-law, Goldie Brandon; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.<br><br>She was a kind and loving Mother. At a time when there were no local hospitals she helped care for many of the sick in the community. Acting as midwife, many a baby drew its first breath in her hands.<br><br>In 1941, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She was a member of the Englewood Wesleyan Church for many years. Ella Rolland Brandon was known to many friends and relatives as "Grandma." Her understanding and love evoked the name.<br><br>Funeral services were held September 11 at the Zulauf-Banta Chapel with Rev. Rodney Collins officiating. Owen Anderson was soloist with Mrs. Jack Hardin as organist. Bearers were John Brandon, Dee Goracke, Dennis Babcock, Larry Babcock, Alvin Brandon, Ron Babcock, Dean Babcock and Gary Babcock (should read Brandon). Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Phillips County, Kans.
