ADAMS
PHYLLIS DEL SOLE, on August 30, 2009, in her ninetieth year, having been a long time resident of Haverford, PA. She was a charter member of St. John Neumann Parish, Bryn Mawr, PA. Raised in Saint Donato Parish, she was always thankful for her continued Catholic education at West Catholic High School for Girls and Saint Joseph College. She was preceded in death, by several decades, by her husband Oliver C. Adams, a very early employee and eventually Vice President of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, her mother and father, Rose and Anthony Del Sole, and brothers, Michael and Rosario.
Mrs. Adams was supportive of many charities and a great friend to several religious communities in the area, most especially, the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart at Saint Raphaela Retreat Center, in Haverford, PA and the Pink Sisters at the Convent of Divine Love, Philadelphia, PA. She was a benefactor of the Archdiocesan Seminary and established the Del Sole-Adams Trust for tuition assistance to Seminarians in need at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood, PA. She had also been a volunteer at Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop and the Morris Animal Shelter. Mrs. Adams had a special fondness for pets, most especially her succession of dogs, Champ I and II, Merci, Ollie and Oliver, these past many years.
As a favor to a dear friend, Mrs. Adams was cashier at Yummies Bakery in the 1980's and became well known to many in the Drexel Hill, PA area.
Mrs. Adams had many lifelong friends and continued to welcome people into her life. One of her friendships resulted from the person having hit Mrs. Adams' car in a parking lot. Her home was always open to those with troubles, frequently welcoming those in need as well as receiving late night calls for counsel or consolation.
Her many loved ones, religious and clergy are invited to join with the Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone, retired Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Phila., as he celebrates a concelebrated Funeral Mass, at Saint John Neumann Church, 330 Highland Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA on Thurs., September the Third, at 10:30 in the morning. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
At Mrs. Adams request, there will be no calling hours.
