Executive with a stock brokerage firm in Phila where they will live. I hope to atatend if all goes well. My mobility has slowed downn considerably in the past few years.

My sister Una May has put her home up for sale. Neither she nor Vernon are in the best of health. Both have been hospitalized within the past few years.

My sister Doris divorced Lou - sold her home and bought another one. Her son's daughter lives with her and I think she's happy for the first time in a long while.

We had a long hot humid summer and the prediction is for another cold winter. Brrr. I'll never forget last winter's snow and ice. I couldn't get out of the house for three weeks.

I hope you and Norman are in good health and whether or not you've sold your house. I'd love to hear from you soon.

Love, Elaine.

(2) Letter to Kathryn [Dietrich] Gasbarro (1915-2003) from Erlaine [Dietrich] Ellinghaus, 21 Jan 1979. Mailed from 55 Crows Nest Road, Bronxville, New York 10708.

Dear Kathryn,

I know this will come as a shock to you but Mother had a major stroke last summer and ws left without speech or the use of her right side. She is in Mary Manning Walsh Home, 72nd and York Ave., N.Y., N.Y. and receiving excellent care.

I apologize for not letting you know sooner but I'm just getting around to dropping notes to people other than immediate of course.

Mother is stable but doesn't have too much awareness but that's one of the worst things about strokes - you never really know.

I hope you and you family are well and will have a fine 1979.

Love, Erlaine.

(3) She really hadn't made much progress since her massive stroke May 30th and her passing was in many ways a blessing for her but a great wrench for me.

I would appreciate it greatly is you let relatives and friends know who would be concerned.

Many thanks and best regards to your family.

Erlaine

(4) Letter to Kathryn [Dietrich] Gasbarro (1915-2003) to Elaine [Anacker] Dietrich-Girard, 1 Nov 1968. Mailed from 174 Meadow Rd., Riviera Beach, MD 21122.

Dear Kathryn,

Your letter to Glendale reached me via Wyckoff NJ and forwarded to me here at my sister's home in Maryland. I sold part of my furniture and shipped the rest to Erlaine's home which will be my permanent address. It was my original intent to visit the east for about a month but I was hospitalized with a slight heart attack the day before I was supposed to leave. Later I decided to make it a permanent move. That was really hectic. I finally left Glendale Aug 7 and then came here to Maryland Sep 7 where I shall be 'til mid January. My grand-daughter Marcia whose husband is stuidying to be a doctor in Italy decided to have her baby born in U.S.A. so that makes me a great-grandmother. The baby was born Sept 14 - a little girl whom she named Kristen. I chose to spend time here until Marcia returns to Italy on Jan 19th. Fortunately he was still on summer vacation when the baby was born, and will be home again Dec 19th for the month's Christmas vacation. Meanwhile Marcia is occupying my living room - bedroom and bath combination guest room that had been added to their home less than a year ago. ricky, who was 21 in August will go to Georgetown Univ. He too plans to be a doctor. Doug 18 1/2 went into the navy Sept 2 and is home for two weeks (after basic training) when he will be assigned to a cargo ship at Norfolk. Erlaine's youngest Jonathan was two years old in July. Believe me that was quite a houseful in August when I was there.

You asked about my husband, his first heart attack was in May of 66. He worked part time after that for six months but had to give it up. Then on June 21st he had a coronary and died before reaching the hospital. It was quite a shock. He looked the picture of health. We had 26 1/2 happy years together and I really mean that. He was good to both my father and mother and wonderful to me. Erlaine and Bud visited us in April and we all went out together and had a grand time. This included Doris and husband and also Carlisle and his wife. Later I flt I wanted to be with Erlaine 'tho I hated to leave California. I've forwarded your letter to Erlaine as I know she'll be intersted in your son's activities since they are near in ages. Most of her boys are musically inclined. Chipper (Raymond) near 15 plays and sings with his guitar and also takes organ lessons. At time he and Doug had trheir own little combo. The family spends their summers in Ocean City, Md. and the boys playing their music drew crowds (nearly 100) on the beach nightly. Someday I hope to see you and have a nice talk.

Here is my address in Md.

Mrs. Elaine Girard, c/o G. V. Ruhl, 174 Meadow Rd., Riviera Beach, Md 21122

My address in NJ.

c/o Mrs. W. M.
