For years the family only knew Alley's (Alice) name was Alley or Alice until I found the article about Henry Edward Gipson which was showing his mother as Alazda Castleberry. I sent the article to Henry Gipson's Grandson Carl and he confirmed that the article was about his grandfather. I have had correspondence with numerous family relatives and they had thought her maiden name was Pope or Poe , but the articles about her son with W.H. Gipson shows different. I still have been trying to get information to confirm her parents but have not been able to. So I have started looking for an Alzada Pope due to the fact that the article was showing her first name as Alzada and found one in the Talbot, Ga area where Alley was from. There is an 1850 census with an Alzada Pope bn 1838 with the father of Zeptha Pope bn 1817 so I continue to research. There is an 1860 census in Rough Edge, Talbot Ga for a Alzada Castleberry bn 1838 with two young boys William and John, which are the names of her two boys , which we are showing as the children of William Elijah Hawkins. Were these boys really the children of a Castleberry that she married as she was shown in the 1860 census with the last name of Castleberry with the two young children. The census does not indicate if she was married, single or widowed. When she married W. E. Hawkins did he adopt the boys? Looks like my research continues, but I am going to go with the thought she was a Pope and married a Castleberry as the search for her parents as a Castleberry has hit a brick wall. More to come..
