  • Story: Samuel Busby

After the death of his mother Elizabeth Bradbury Samuel and his brothers were kindly taken in by their neighbours Emily Bogg (nee Bishop) and Charles Bogg.  They lived next door at 25 New Parade, Hull.  The brothers were brought up by Emily and it was said that Emily and her husband could not have children themselves. The Busby children grew up treating Emily as their mother.  However Emily and Charles did have a child Emily Jane born 1894.  Emily and charles then had a second child Eliza Anne five years later in 1899.  Sadly Emily died during childbirth aged 33.  The cause of death in cemetery records is simply given as 'childbirth'.  Emilys baby daughter was adopted (though again not legally) by Samuel Busby and was brought up in his family as their own child until she died in infancy.
