Breeschotens Note Golden Anniversary</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">To honor Mr. and Mrs. Henry Breeschoten on their golden wedding anniversary, two parties were held at the City Auditorium on Saturday. In the afternoon a group of relatives assembled and in the evening there were also members of the First Reformed church to which the honored couple belong, and also other friends.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">Tables were decorated in gold and white, and there was a beautiful cake baked by Mrs. J. M. Johnson. Waitresses were Gertrude Van Maanen, Evelyn and Henrietta Van Hoepen, Mrs. Wilbur Kleinjan, Mrs. Arnold Van Maanen and Doris Wiersma.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">In the evening the following program wias given, with John Wiersma as toastmaster: Readings by Mrs. Albert Baker and Mrs. Arie J. Vander Wal; dialogue, Mrs. Ralph Breeschoten and Mrs. John Van Driesen; piano duet, Gertrude Van Maanen and Doris Wiersma; readings by Henry Van Maanen and John Wiersma, and group singing of songs. The honored couple received many gifts.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">Mr. and Mrs Breeschoten were married at Alton, Iowa Dec. 22, 1896. They came to South Dakota where they lived only a short time, moving to Minnesota where they resided many years until about a year ago when they purchased a home in Volga.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">They are the parents of 10 children, all of whom were present for the Saturday event. They are: Mrs. William Van Hoepen (Hattie) of Volga; Mrs. Guy Van Maanen (Frances), Volga; Mrs. William Kleinjan (Jennie), Volga; Mrs. William Mol (Gertrude), Silver Creek, Minn.; Mrs. Rick Naaktgeboren (Anna), Svea, Minn.; Ralph Breeschoten, Volga; Gerrit Breeschoten, Volga; Henry Breeschoten, Silver Creek, Minn.; John Breeschoten, Volga; and Mrs. Albert Freiberg (Alice) of Silver Creek, Minn. <span style="font-family: tahoma, geneva, sans-serif"><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">Henry Breeschoten, 85, died suddenly Tuesday evening in the Volga Hospita. He had worked in his garden that afternoon. He became ill and was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the First Reformed Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. R. Duiker will officiate and interment will be made in Trinity Cemetery. Milton Amie will be the soloist, accompanied by his wife. Mrs. Edward Van Maanen will be the organist. Six grandsons, Marian Van Hoepen, Arnold Van Maanen, Duane Kleinjan, Donald Naaktgeboren, Robert Breeschoten and Henry Van Maanen, will be pall bearers.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">The deceased was born in the Netherlands March 8, 1873. He came to America when he was 18 years old and worked at Orange City, Iowa. </p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">He married Effie De Kruif Dec. 22, 1896, with whom he celebrated both a golden wedding and 60th wedding anniversary. They resided for a time in Alton, Iowa, and moved to Volga in 1905, farming south of the city. In 1920 they moved to Maple Lake, Minn., to farm. They purchased a home in Volga in 1945 for their retirement.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">Ten children survive. They include the following: Mrs. Hattie Van Hoepen, Mrs. Guy Fan Maanen (Frances), Mrs. William Kleinjan (Jennie), Ralph and John, all of Volga; Mrs. Rick Naaktgeboren (Anne), Wood Lake, Minn.; Henry, Howard Lake Minn.; Gerrit, Mrs. William Mol (Gertrude) and Mrs. Albert Freiberg (Alice), Silver Creek, Minn. There are also 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. All of the sisters and brothers of the deceased preceded him in death.</p></span>

It will mark their 60th wedding anniversary. </p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">The couple was married Dec. 22, 1896, at Alton, Ia. They came to Volga in 1904 where they lived until 1920 when they moved to a farm at Maple Lake, Minn. They retired 11 years ago and moved to Volga. They have 10 children, 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.</p><p style="margin-: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-: 0px; line-height: 1.3; padding: 0px">The children are: Mrs. Van Hoepen, Volga; Mrs. Guy Van Maanen, Volga; Mrs. William Kleinjan, Volga; Mrs. William Mol, Silver Creek, Minn.; Mrs. Rick Naaktgeboren, Wood Lake, Minn.; John, Volga; Mrs. Albert Freiburg, Silver Creek; Ralph, Volga; Henry, Howard Lake, Minn.; and Gerrit, Silver Creek.</p></span>
