Francois Gerneaux, a Huguenot from the Isle of Guernsey, came to America and settled near New Rochelle , New York, where he died at the age of 103. The family name was changed after a time to <span style="color: black; background-color: cyan">Gano</span>.<br><br>Francois brought his son stephen to America as a child. Stephen married Ann Walton and had nine children. One of their sons, Daniel <span style="color: black; background-color: cyan">Gano</span>, who married Sara Britton, daughter of Nathaniel Britton of Staten Island, moved to Hopewell, Hunterdon County.
