CLAPPER - In Independence Sunday Sept., 17th., 1893, Mrs. O. J. Clapper, in the 48th year of her age.

Deceased was a sister of Mrs. H. H. Shaffer and came from Butler county, Pennsylvania, in 1868, settling in this county, and became the wife of O. J. Clapper the same year. Two years ago she buried her husband and some time after that she became deranged and in hopes of a speedy recovery the family took her to Independence, but alas for human hopes , the only relief that came was through the kindness of release from earthly suffering. Her aged mother still survive s and one brother and four sisters live to mourn the misfortune and affliction through which this member of the family was called to pass.

Of her own family, now doubly orphaned, there are two girl s and two boys who will find the journey of life lonely without either father or mother to advise or counsel them in t he work and perplexities with which all come in contact i n this work-a-day world. The tired hands are at rest and m other's voice is hushed in the stillness of the tomb, but s till there is memory busy with the past and shaping the future.

The funeral was held Wednesday in the Baptist church of Jacksonville, where she has been a member for many years and highly esteemed for her christian character, the Rev. Dean e conducting the services, and followed by many old neighbors, the body of their late friend and neighbor was laid to rest.
