    <span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: verdana">CHARLES AND HIS BROTHER JOHN WERE SPECIALIZE PAINTERS AND TOGETHER THEY REFINISHED ART WORK AND STATUES IN CHURCHES.&nbsp; THEY ALSO DID ART POSTERS.THEY WERE ROOMING AT THE WIDOW RUTH ANN (ACKERT) SMITH&#39;S HOUSE IN STAATSBURG, NEW YORK.&nbsp; CHARLES WAS ALSO THE SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT AT THE BAPTIST CHURCH.<br>CHARLES HAD ALSO BEEN TRAINED AS A HATTER AND SO WHEN HE AND WIDOW SMITH FELL IN LOVE, THEY MOVED TO WISCONSIN WHERE THE LEADING HAT FACTORIES WERE AND HE COULD WORK.&nbsp; UNFORTUNATELY HE FELL ILL AND UNABLE TO WORK FORABOUT A YEAR.&nbsp; IN WISCONSIN FOR ABOUT EIGHT OR NINE YEARS, HE RETURNED TO RED HOOK, NEW YORK&nbsp; WITH THE FAMILY AND WORKED AS A PORTRAIT PAINTER.     <p>RUTH ANN ACKERT WAS A STRONG WILL WOMAN AND KEPT HER INCOME UP FROM ASMALL PENSION BY WORKING AS A DRESS MAKER FOR INDIVIDUAL TOWN WOMEN INTHE STAATSBURG, NEW YORK AREA AND ALSO HAD A ROOMING HOUSE.&nbsp; SHE SO HIGHLY PRIZED THE PENSION THAT SHE WOULD NOT JEOPARDIZE IT BY MARRING CHARLES RICHMOND. (SEE NOTES ON CHARLES RICHMOND) SHE DID HAVE TWO CHILDREN BY HIM.&nbsp; LEONARD ISAAC RICHMOND AND ESTHER SYLVIA RICHMOND.
