Irene Vas Priscoe Loving wife, mother, grandmother, real estate broker and humanitarian Irene Vas Priscoe of Palm Harbor, Fla., formerly of Metuchen, N.J., passed away peacefully on June 1, 2011, at the age of 92 after a short illness. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen, N.J. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the Metuchen Reformed Church. Irene was born in New Brunswick, N.J.,on Oct. 6, 1918, to Meri Papp and Zsigmund Vas. She was a graduate of Highland Park High School. Upon her marriage in 1943 to Nick Priscoe she resided in Woodbridge, N.J., and moved to Metuchen in 1949. There Irene resided and managed her real estate business until she moved, in 1980, to Palm Harbor, Fla. Irene Priscoe was the first female real estate broker of Middlesex County, starting her real estate brokerage firm, “The Priscoe Agency,” in the early 1950’s, and was a charter member of the Middlesex County Multiple Listing System. In addition to Irene’s active real estate brokerage business, she found time to be the managing interpreter at Camp Kilmer In Piscataway to assist in the arrival of persons displaced during the Hungarian revolution of 1956. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nicholas Anthony Priscoe (1909-1981). She is survived by her children, Peggy Priscoe Herry, Richard Prisco, Patricia Priscoe, and Robert V. Priscoe; seven Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Irene is remembered and admired for her stauch independence and self-sufficiency. She enjoyed sharing with others Her wealth of knowledge and life’s stories.
<p><font face="Arial" size="3">Family Oral History According to Eszter Mester Szeles - reported by her son Arpad Albert Mac Syeles - tape recorded in 1975 by Arpad's son Albert </font></p><p>Eszter Mester is a direct decendant of the Baron of Somogy (through her mother Rose Somogy). Arpad heard this from his Mother -Eszter, his father and his "Aunt" (Molly?) Vas, a cousin of his mother. [Arpad Vas was another "cousin" (pronounced "vush)]</p><p>Arpad's Uncle Frank lived in Europe. After WWI the borders moved and his villiage was then in Czechoslovakia across the Tisza River. He would smuggle things into Hungary.</p><p>Janos, Arpad's father was an officer in the cavalry. He left because he saw too many things that he didn't like. For instance, a soldier would have to see to that a villiager's daughter would sleep with a prince, and that girl would be ruined for life.</p>
